Sládeček Museum of Local History

The Sládeček Museum of Local History in Kladno, being established by the Central Bohemia Regional Authority, offers a tour round historical expositions and a simulated adit in the Kladno Castle, and an excursion to the Budeč site of ancient Přemyslides settlement near Zákolany.

The permanent exhibitions document the transformation of the town Kladno and its environs from the Prehistoric ages to the Baroque time when the Kladno demesne was purchased by the Břevnov Benedictines. Temporary exhibitions also occur to take place in the museum (land history, everyday history, practices, natural science as well as photography, for example).

The Museum also ensures excursions to the early medieval hill fort - Budeč near Zákolany - with the St. Peter and Paul´s rotunda which is the oldest well-preserved building in the Czech Republic, and which, according to legends, relates to education of the later Saint Václav (Wenceslas). To czech schoolchildren, the Budeč hill fort offers a modified tour and worksheets which are prepared for different age categories.

The Mayrau open air museum near Vinařice is built in the area of one of the oldest in use coalmines in Kladno and is now affiliated to our museum: it is organised as a mine that workers just have left, thus it is either possible to take a look inside the locker room, the pithead's shower room, the identity plate control room, the cantine or inside the shaft and the still equipped and functioning engine room.

A mineralogical exhibition and an artificial gallery showing the extractive processes have been created in the area where are also organized exhibitions as well as cultural events (from music to happenings).

Among priorities of the Museum, there is cooperation with schools in the region which results in producing autonomous educational programmes, follow-up programmes to exhibitions and project days.
